US trying for positive results from peace talks: Olson

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The United States special representative for Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon on Tuesday said his country was trying to help the Afghanistan peace talks yield positive results.

Ambassador Richard Olson during a meeting with National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atamr discussed with him relations between the two countries, a statement for Atmar’s office said.

The two officials also discussed Monday’s quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad, next phases of the talks and duties of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG).

Atmar was hopeful about the outcome of the new push for peace parleys, which he called as crucial for peace and stability in the region and the worldinfo-icon.

According to Atmar, the involvement of the US and China in the upcoming peace talks had made the Afghans optimistic about positive results from the negotiations.

Olson said the US was committed to bringing peace to Afghanistan and was trying to lead the talks to a positive end and assured Afghanistan of Washington’s continued cooperation.

Ambassador Richard Olson expressed continued US support for the national unity government and the Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation effort, according the Department of State. He also expressed continued US support for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
