Attacker killed in botched Lashkargah car bombing

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A suicide attacker detonated his explosives-laden car before reaching his target in Lashkargah city, the capital of southern Helmand province, on Wednesday, an official said.

Helmand’s deputy police chief Col. Khan Almas told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place in the third security district at around 2pm this afternoon. The target was police, but only one civilian was wounded in the blast, he said.

The 3rd district police chief Ghulam Ali Shakir said the attacker in a corolla car wanted to hit the district headquarters, but detonated his explosives before reaching the target.

He also said only the bomber was killed in the blast that left a civilian wounded.

Officials at the Emergency-run hospital confirmed receiving one injured person from the scene.

Giving an eyewitness account Hayatullah said it was a powerful explosion, but he was unaware about casualties.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The blast came hours later a suicide attack in Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, targeted a security forces ranger, leaving nine security personal dead.

Then three attackers, who had barricaded themselves in a house near the Pakistaninfo-icon consulate compound in the city, were killed during a shootout with security forces. Another 10 people were wounded
