Ghani stresses more focus on best health services

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday said there were still no proper standards for employing healthinfo-icon specialists and contracts for offering health services continued while problems persisted.

The president expressed these views during a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and representatives of foreign charity organizations providing health services in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

According to a statement from the Presidential Palace, the meeting discussed how to improve health services all over Afghanistan.

The participants also discussed the lack of transparency and effectiveness of health service providers and problems in the contracts to foreign organizations offering healthcare services, the statement said.

Public Health Minister Firozuddin Firoz and representatives of foreign health organizations shared their suggestions about effectiveness, transparency and accountability in the health sector with the president.

The president after hearing their suggestions said the government and foreign health organisations should mainly focus on providing best healthcare services to the people.

Ghani said there was no accountability and proper standards in employing health specialists. He added the contracts for offering health services continued despite problems on the ground.

He said the MoPH should strengthen its assessments, evaluation, guidelines and the reward and punishment system.

The Afghan government and international partners should jointly seek alternative ways for improving health services in Afghanistan because all Afghans demanded a positive and high healthcare quality services, Ghani added.

“Afghanistan wants to go forward and become self-sufficient, therefore we should use all available resources to achieve this goal,” he said.

The president asked health officials and international partners to review their requirements and bring about reforms in the health sector based on transparency and accountability.
