Uprising commander, 5 militants killed in Jawzjan incidents
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Five Taliban fighters and a public uprising commander have been killed in separate incidents in the northern province of Jawzjan, officials said on Wednesday.
Two motorbikes and three Kalashnikovs were seized from the militants as a result of an overnight raid by the security personnel in the Torkhel area near the provincial capital.
Police officer Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi told Pajhwok Afghan News at least one militant was detained while the rest managed to flee. The security personnel suffered no casualties in the firefight.
Civilians were not harmed in the two-hour clash,which took place away from the residential area, said an inhabitant of the locality, Mohammad Sharif.
Separately, unidentified gunmen abducted a public uprising commander, Ayub, with his two guards in the Garjak area of Faizabad district, said the administrative head of the town, Saira Shakib.
The body of the commander was found in a graveyard in a nearby area but the fate of his guards remained unknown, she said.Ayub was killed due to prior enmity, but the killers were yet to be identified, she added.
Meanwhile, the Taliban said in a statement on their website they had killed a tribal militia commander,named Ayub, in Faizabad district.
