Security men, Taliban suffer casualties in Zabul incidents
QALAT (Pajhwok): Several security personnel and Taliban fighters suffered casualties during clashes and bomb blasts in southern Zabul province, officials said on Friday.
Seven national and local police personnel were injured when their vehicle overturned after being hit by a roadside bomb blast in Arghandab district on Thursday evening, deputy provincial police chief Col. Ghulam Jilani Farahi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The police were supplying logistics to checkpoints when the blast occurred, he said, adding that after the explosion, the police encountered Taliban, killing two fighters and injuring three others and seized some of their weapons and ammunitions.
However, a government source in Zabul said five policemen had been killed and 10 others wounded in the blast and the firefight.
Separately, seven militants were killed during an operation in Shah Joy district, Farahi said.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said the explosion in Arghandab district targeted a vehicle carrying local police commander, Daud. Five policemen were killed and as many, including Daud, were injured in the blast, he said.
