Faryab man chops off wife’s nose, prompting calls for justice

Faryab man chops off wife’s nose, prompting calls for justice

Jan 18, 2016 - 14:44
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A man has chopped off the nose of his wife, prompting calls from the victim’s relatives for bringing the perpetrator to justice.
Reza Gul (20), who was subjected to the barbarian treatment after six years of marriage, was admitted to the Afghan-Turk Hospital in Faryab province.
Gul told Pajhwok Afghan News her husband, who recently returned from Iran after a year, looked for flimsy excuses for beating and insulting her.
“Last night, he tried to shoot me with a pistol. Luckily for me, the weapon misfired. Then he cut off my nose off with a knife,” the woman added.
On hearing her screams, relatives came and evacuated her to hospital.
“We tried to treat her nose at the hospital, but it’s impossible here. Now we plan to shift her to Kabulinfo-icon,” Afghan-Turk Hospital Director Dr. Fawzia Salimi said.
Zar Gul, the victim’s mother, accused her son-in-law of tying up the hands of her daughter and subjecting her to the worst forms of torture imaginable.
“Even my enemy will not do what my own son-in-law has done to my daughter. The perpetrator must be arrested and dragged to court,” she remarked.
Obaidullah, anotherin-law of the victim, alleged Gul’s husband Mohammad Khan had once shaven his spouse’s face.
Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) official Syed Hafizullah Fitrat denounced the incident, saying the perpetrator be arrested and prosecuted forthwith.
