Police detain Taliban’s mayor in Takhar
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Police on Monday detained a Taliban’s mayor and financial affairs head for Darqad district of northeastern Takhar province, officials said.
The Taliban mayor was detained on Monday afternoon in Taraki village of Darqad district, police spokesman Maj. Khalil Asir told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In preliminary interrogation, the detainee, Maulvi Shukrullah hailing from Dasht-i-Archi district of Kunduz, had confessed that he was a Taliban mayor and finance affairs head in Darqad district, the official said.
A resident of the district, Abdul Ghafoor, confirmed Shukrullah had been arrested and that he was Taliban’s finance affairs head. The resident said most of areas of the district had been cleared of Taliban militants.
The Taliban have so far said nothing about the arrest of their mayor for Darqad district.
