Senate condemns amputation of woman’s nose
A man chopped off the nose of his wife, Reza Gul, a 20-years-old, after six years of their marriage in Ghormach district of Faryab.
“The government should urgently arrest the husband and provide treatment to the victim,” Senator Anar Kali Hunaryar told the upper house.
She said the perpetrators of such crimes against women should be punished in order to prevent violence against the gender.
Another member of the Meshrano Jirga, Nisar Haris, asked security officials to urgently arrest the husband. It is said the man had joined Taliban after hacking off the nose of the woman.
Another lawmaker Maulvi Mahauddin Munsif said “until the perpetrators of such crimes are not brought to justice, the violence against women would increase.”
Senate chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar strongly denounced the incident and said security organs were responsible to arrest the person and punish him in public to set an example for others.
Meanwhile, some other lawmakers expressed their anger over the burning of a girls school in Kabul and asked the Ministry of Education and security organs to take measures for security of schools.
Two nights back, unidentified gunmen set alight a girls’ school in Ahmad Shah Baba Mena of Kabul, and killed the school guard.
Senator Mohammad Hassan Hotak said “earlier we would hear about schools set afire in provinces, but now such incidents have stated taking place in capital Kabul. If the officials concerned don’t take urgent measures, it would concern all female students in Kabul.”
“The enemies of the Afghans want to prevent girls from getting education. They could not prevent them from going to school by poisoning them and now they have opted to arson attacks to stop girls from going to school,” he said.
Muslimyar said the house security commission had been tasked with summoning the Kabul police commander and the education minister to answer questions from lawmakers in this regard.
