Foreign minister to visit China in late January
KABUL (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani would pay an official visit to China from Jan. 25, to 28, as a guest of his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, China foreign ministry announced on Wednesday.
Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Hong Lei informed reporters about the visit at a regular press conference in capital Beijing.
This would be Rabbani's first visit to China since he became foreign minister, and it would also be the first high-level visit between China and Afghanistan this year. Both countries acknowledged the importance of the visit, Hong said.
During the visit, Rabbani would also meet with Chinese leaders and hold talks with Wang Yi, the spokesperson maintained.
Last year, China and Afghanistan jointly celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations as well as the Year of China-Afghanistan Friendly Cooperation, said Hong.
"We hope that through this visit the two sides could implement the consensus reached by both leaders, outline the development of bilateral ties, and boost cooperation in economic and trade, security, culture and international and regional affairs, to push forward bilateral relations," he said.
