Sweden to spend $1b in Herat over next decade: Envoy
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Sweden has decided to spend $1 billion in western Herat province over the next decade to empower women and strengthen the education and the private sector, the country’s envoy said on Wednesday.
Swedish ambassador in Kabul, Peter Semneby, who has been in Herat over the past two days, told a press conference here that good investment opportunities existed in Herat and his country would spend $1 billion for women empowerment, education and private sector in the province in the next 10 years.
Their assessment showed that the province was a proper place for small and big investments which could provide work opportunities for many people, he said.
Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) chief for Herat, Saad Khatibi, said the Swedish ambassador had promised him that his country would spend some of his country’s assistance in Heart.
He said the ambassador had asked entrepreneurs in Herat to develop good links with Swedish investors.
