100 families displaced by fighting in Aqcha district
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Nearly 100 families were displaced by recent clashesthat inflicted casualties on militants and security personnel in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjanprovince, officials said on Monday.
The Afghan National Army (ANA), National Directorate of Security (NDS), Public Order Police and Afghan National Police (ANP) swooped from three directions on Aqcha two days ago.
Police officer Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi told Pajhwok Afghan News five fighters were killed and as many more injured in the operation. Public uprising commander Mohammad Yousuf, who was not part of the offensive, was killed by a Taliban-fired rocket.
But a Taliban spokesman claimed the fighters had killed 15 security personnel, including militia commander Mohammad Yousuf, during clashes in the district over the past two days.
According to Aqcha district chiefBatoor, nearly 100 families have been displaced to Shiberghan, the capital of the province, and Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh.
