Stepson shoots pregnant mother to death in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A 30-year-old pregnant woman has been shot dead by her stepson in Maimana, the capital of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Tuesday.

Dr. Samir Inayat, head of the forensic department, confirmed receiving the woman’s bullet-hit body at the hospital. The woman was found to be pregnant, he added.

A security official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News Mrs. Abdul Ghani was the principal of a school in the Karezinfo-icon locality of Pashtonkot district. Her stepson was identified as Wahidullah.

The woman recently tied the knot with Abdul Ghani, a resident of the 3rd police district of Maimana. The man was already married and she became his second wife.

Faryab Womeninfo-icon Affairs Director Sharifa Azimi said the victim’s stepson wanted to steal some cash and jewelryfrom his mother, who caught him read-handed. As a result, she was shot dead on the spot.

Meanwhile, the regional office of the Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC)said it had registered 126 incidents of violence against women in Faryab, including18 murder and suicide cases.

A couple of days back, the body of a 22-year-old woman was found in Maimana. The slain woman,a student of the teacher training centre, was married.
