Tree plantation drive kicks off in Helmand
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Some 72,000 fruit and ornamental saplings are being planted as part of a plantation drive kicked off on Saturday in the southern province of Helmand, officials said.
Helmand Governor Mirza Khan Rahimi told Pajhwok Afghan News the saplings would be distributed to citizens of Lashkargah and farmers in districts during the tree plantation campaign and urged people to protect the young trees and keep watering them.
Natural resources manager at the provincial agriculture department, Khad Mohamamd, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had in hand 72,000 saplings including 43,000 ornamental and 28,000 fruit trees which would be distributed in accordance with the procedure set by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL).
Up to 20,000 seedlings set aside for greenery and ornament of public places and recreational parks will be handed over to Lashkargah municipality, he said.
