3 Uruzgan security personnel killed in Taliban attack
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): An Afghan National Army (ANA) officer and two policemen were killed and three other cops wounded in an insurgent attack in the central province of Uruzgan, officials said on Tuesday.
Taliban attacked the security personnel on Monday evening when they were evacuating five injured policemen from Deh Rawood district to Tirinkot, the provincial capital.
The insurgent attack happened in Achakzai area, the district police chief, Mohammad Nabi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. One ANA officer and two policemen were killed and three others injured.
The five injured policemen had been stranded at the checkpoint for the past 20 days, absent arrangements for shifting them to hospital, checkpoint commander Saleh Mohammad said.
“With the help of ANA, we decided to shift the injured police yesterday, but Taliban attacked us on the way to Helmand River,” he said.
As police and army reinforcements arrived for help, the militants also attacked them, killing three security personnel and injuring as many others. The rebels have so far issued no comment on the incident.
