Abdullah makes pitch for Indian investment in Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah on Wednesday asked the Indian private sector to invest in different sectors of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s economy.

Addressing a conference on regional connectivity at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi, the CEO praised India’s cooperation with Afghanistan. Investment by the Indian private sector was vital to regional stability, he said.

Abdullah assured Indian entrepreneurs of security and incentives for investment in Afghanistan’s infrastructure, energy, agricultureinfo-icon, domestic products, public healthinfo-icon, capacity development, educationinfo-icon, information technology and other sectors.

“The Afghan government, traders and industrialists were ready to cooperate with the Indian private sector on investment in these sectors,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.

He made a strong pitch for greater cooperation on economic development, as well as peace and stability in the region. He suggested more transit facilities in the region.

“The dream of breakfast in Kabul, launch in Islamabad and dinner in Delhi has not come true for certain reasons. Now is the time to change this dream into reality. Free transportation of goods for the development and prosperity of the region,” he observed.

Abdullah hoped the Chabahar port in Iran would be inaugurated soon to boost facilitate regional trade links and exchanges between India and Afghanistan.

The CEO described Afghaistan as a bridge linking Central Asain states with South Asia, other regional and Europe countire. That would finally help in bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan.

Indian officials and investors welcomed the facilities offered by Afghansitan. They favoured efforts for strengthening bilateral relations, an easy transfer of goods and better business links between the two countries.
