Afghanistan U-19s cruise to big win over New Zealand
Rashid Arman picked three wickets off 30 runs and the Kiwis were reduced to 35 for six by the 19th over after opting to bat in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh.
Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News that the young Kiwis could not stay on the crease to the Afghan spin that claimed most of the wickets.
The New Zealanders made 135 runs in 45 overs as another key bowler for Afghanistan, Shamsur Rahman, clinched three wickets and Tariq and Ziaur Rahman shared two wickets each.
Tariq Stanikzai hammered an unbeaten 50 and was the man of the match and opener Ihsanullah contributed 47 and led Afghanistan to victory with more than 22 overs to spare.
The Afghans chased the target in the 28th over and win the match by eight wickets.
The Afghanistan under-19s would face in their last match Zimbabwe for the ninth place play-off.
