NATO defense ministers to confer on Afghan mission
At the two-day meeting, which began in Brussels on Wednesday, the defence ministers conferred on a wide range of issues, including Afghanistan and strengthening defence and deterrence.
“We expect our defence ministers to exchange views on the work carried out by our ongoing Resolute Support mission providing training, advice and assistance to the Afghan forces,” a NATO official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
On Wednesday, the alliance agreed on bold steps to stop Russia from possible agression in the Baltics or eastern Europe. The ministers supported quick deployment of air, naval and ground forces in the region.
Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the Munich Security Conference this week to stress the defensive nature of NATO's strategy for the Baltics and eastern Europe.
