500m afs agro projects in Helmand next year: Zamir
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Minister Asadullah Zamir on Thursday said agricultural schemes worth 500 million afghanis would be executed in southern Helmand province.
The minister told a press conference here that 2000 pomegranate and grape orchards, some green houses, 500 pistachio orchards, small water dams, raisin processing structures, 500 small orchards for women, some poultry farms and other projects would be executed in the next solar year that starts on March 22.
Jobless people would find work opportunities on the projects that would cost 500 million afs, the minister said.
His ministry should resume work on the Kajaki and Garamser canals and re-operationalise the Bost enterprise; Helmand Governor Mirza Khan Rahimi told the press conference.
Up to 80,000 hectares of land has been cultivated with poppy crop in Helmand due to lack of much needed development projects, said Syed Ahmad Wror, the provincial counternarcotics director.
