Pashto language added to Google Translate

Pashto language added to Google Translate

Feb 18, 2016 - 19:59

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Google has added the Pashtoinfo-icon language to its online translation system, a leading online translator machine.

Google --- a leading online search engine --- has activated its translation service 10 years ago as part of Google online products.

The Google Translate includes English, Arabic, Urdu, Indian, Chinese, French, Spanish and other languages and now has added Pashto to the list.

A number of Pashto linguists have voluntary worked on the project with Google. A large number of Afghans have demanded the Google to add their native language to its translation machine.

People now can translate Pashto to other languages and vice-versa. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah expressed gratitude over the addition of Pashto to Google Translate and congratulated the Afghans and the Pashtuninfo-icon tribe on both sides of the Durand Lineinfo-icon.

He said the ministries of information and culture and information technology would work together to standardise the Pashto language translation in Google Translate.

Information and Culture Ministry spokesman Haroon Hakimi called the development a positive step and told Pajhwok Afghan News that concerns about missing parts of Pashto language had been removed.

Hakimi thanked those who worked as volunteers contributing to the Pashto language translation project and said the translation still needed more improvement and the ministry of information and culture would work for standardising the translation in Google Translate.
