Probe attack on SCA hospital in Wardak, HRW asks Ghani
KABUL (Pajhwok): An international human rights group has asked the government to investigate last week’s raid on a hospital run by the Swedish Committee (SCA) in central Maidan Wardak province.
Human Rights Watch (HRW) said SCA had informed it that uninformed Afghan troops stormed into the hospital in Syeabadb district and shot dead two patients and an 11-year-old child dragged out of the clinic.
"President Ashraf Ghani needs to send a clear message to the Afghan army that killing hospital patients deserves severe punishment," HRW’s senior researcher Patricia Gossman said in a statement."
That meant prosecuting any officer who ordered the killings, as well as the soldiers who pulled the trigger, she remarked, urging Afghan authorities to check whether US, Germa or Turkish troops were complicit in the shooting.
The SCA would not say whether the men were affiliated with the Taliban, explaining the hospital in question treated all people regardless of their political affiliations.
