Protest held against ALP, uprising members in Ghazni

Protest held against ALP, uprising members in Ghazni

Feb 20, 2016 - 20:57

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Womeninfo-icon were among dozens of people who staged a protest demonstration in the capital of southern Ghazni province against the Afghan Local Police (ALP) and uprising members.

The women with some holding copies of the holy Quraninfo-icon in their hands asked the government to remove ALP and uprising members from Andar district and replace them with military and national police personnel.

The protestors marched from Ghazni City’s Pakhtunabad area to the office of the provincial crime branch police, but they were prevented from further advance.

A resident of Andar district and participant of the rally, Bibi Rahima, said ALP personnel and anti-Talibaninfo-icon militias were forcing residents to serve them meal. “We can no longer tolerate their atrocities, they force their way inside people’s homes and demand meals,” she said, vowing to continue their protest until the said forces were pulled out from their area.

Bibi Rahima said the ALP and uprising gunmen were subjecting local residents to violence without any reason or justification and they used to collect money from people by using force and threaten people with elimination if they refused to pay money.

Another participant of the rally, Mohammad Khalid, said the uprising members last week beat a student to near death, sparking a protest in the district centre of Andar by local residents. The forces also severely beat another person last night, he said. He said the latest incident of beating took place in Kajri area of the district involving an uprising commander Shaheen, actual resident of Giru district.

Governor Mohammad Aman Halim said they were trying to reduce such problems, saying many people from Andar district had visited him in support of the ALP and uprising members. He directed the security organs to take action against ALP personnel and uprising members involved in intimidation of local residents.

On Thursday, Ghazni police chief Aminullah Amarkhel said police would take action against all those creating problems for local residents.
