Tribal elder stabbed to death, Daesh fighter captured
MAIMANA/FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): A tribal elder has been stabbed to death in the Pashtunkot district of northwestern Faryab province and an Islamic State (IS) member detained in western Ghor, officials said on Saturday.
Abdul Qadir Qadiri, Pashtunkot district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News Halim Bai was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants on his way from a local mosque to home on Friday night.
He said Bai was a tribal elder from the Bocha area of the district. Intelligence agents had launched a search for the attackers, he added.
A resident of the area, who wished not to be named, hailed Halim Bai as a social-spirited man. He asked relevant government organs to ascertain the motive behind his assassination.
Elsewhere, a Daesh fighter was detained in Ghor, police spokesmanAhmad Mohammadi said, identifying the detainee as Maulvi Abdur Rahman -- a resident of the Murghab area of Ferozkoh.
He said the IS militant was arrested in Pozalich area by Afghan intelligence operatives late on Friday. Rahman is currently under investigation.
Mohammadi accused the Daesh fighter of involvement in at least 14 civilian killings on the Kabul-Ghor highway, including the traffic chief for Ghor, three traffic officers and a judge.
