Ghani names his picks for interior minister, AG slots
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has picked Gen. Taj Mohammad Jahid as his nominee for the slot of interior minister and Mohammad Farid Hamidi as the attorney general-designate, a well-placed source at the Presidential Palace said on Wednesday.
The source, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News President Ghani had accepted the resignation of the current interior minister Noorul Haq Ulumi and designated Gen. Jahid as his replacement. Ulumi will serve as Afghan ambassador in Netherlands.
Taj Mohammad Jahid was commander of the 207th Zafar Military Corps in western Heart province.
Farid Hamidi has earlier served as deputy director of the Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission (AIHRC).
He is a well-known lawyer with extensive experience in criminology and investigation. He had attended various national and international conferences and events on human rights promotion and protection.
Before joining the AIHRC, Hamidi was member of the Emergency Loya Jirga and responsible for developing rules and regulation for election.
He worked closely with the Judicial Reform Commission in training of lawyers and judges on international human right law and standards.
In addition, Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahmani had been replaced by Lt. Gen. Mohammad Ayub Salangi as new senior security advisor at the ministry of interior.
