President gives $10,000 in aid to Khaksar’s family
The senior broadcast journalist, Mohammad Zubair Khaksar, who was fatally shot dead by unknown assailants in Sara Rud district of eastern Nangarhar province last month, also worked as a cultural adviser to the provincial governor.
President Ashraf Ghani handed over the cash assistance to the journalist’s family in the presence of a delegation of the Afghanistan Federation of Journalists.
The president had a month ago promised assistance with Khaksar’s family during a meeting with the National Federation of Journalists and Media Organisations.
At the meeting, the president had said a fund would be created for journalists losing their lives or sustaining injuries in line duty.
Sources at the journalist federation say work to create the fund has been started and in this regard a procedure containing three chapters and 16 articles has been developed.
