Number of women taking own lives in Jawzjan rises to 22
SIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A young woman has allegedly committed suicide in northern Jawzjan province, taking to 22 the number of women claiming their own lives in the province this year, an official said.
Mohammad Raza Ghafoori, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 24-year-old woman hanged herself to death with her shawl inside her house at a time when her other family members were busy doing household chores.
Her corpse was handed over to her family after a forensic examination in Shiberghan hospital. A doctor at the hospital said the shawl knotted around her neck had caused her death.
Maulvi Mohammad Rasoul Akhunzada, a religious personality, said such incidents did not happen without reasons. He believed the dead woman would have been deprived of her due rights. The scholar said human rights violations were on the increase.
