1 killed, 12 wounded in Lashkargah landmine blast
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A landmine blast killed one policeman and injured eleven civilians and a second policeman in the capital of southern Helmand province on Sunday.
Police found and deactivated the improvised explosive device in the first police district limits of Lashkargah, the provincial capital, at about 7pm, the governor’s spokesman said.
Omar Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News that when police were placing the landmine into an armoured vehicle, it went off, causing the casualties.
He said the blast destroyed the armoured vehicle and a nearby civilian car and shattered mirrors of two marketplaces and doors of some residences in the vicinity.
Officials at the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah confirmed receiving 11 wounded persons from the scene. They included police and civilians and some were in critical condition.
A police official, who declined to be identified, said four policemen had been killed in the blast.
