All hijacked drivers, vehicles of demining firm rescued in Logar
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): All drivers and vehicles of a demining company have been rescued after being hijacked by gunmen in central Logar province as a result of a security operation, an official said on Monday.
Two days ago, suspected militants stormed a centre of the Sterling Global Operations in the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam, and drove away seven vehicles along with as many drivers.
In a series of operations, Afghan security forces rescued five vehicles and three drivers on Sunday, with two vehicles and four driving remaining in custody of the gunmen.
The remaining vehicles and drivers were recovered as a result of an operation, the governor’s spokesman, Salim Saleh, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Monday.
He said the drivers and the vehicles had been kept in a house in Ab Chakan area and security forces raided the house and freed all the drivers and vehicles.
One of the rescued drivers, Javed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they were mistreated, beaten up and denied food in captivity. He thanked security forces for freeing them.
On Sunday, Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai said the drivers and the vehicles had been hijacked by Taliban militants.
But a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters had no hand in the incident. “If some fighters were involved, action would be taken against them.”
