Kabul hails Delhi’s decision to invest in Chabahar
Given its capacity for loading and unloading transit commodities, the port can emerge as a commercial hub for Afghan, Indian and Iranian traders.
A Ministry of Commerce and Industries spokesman, speaking to Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency(IRNA), the port project was profitable for India as well.
Mosafer Qoqandi hoped Afghanistan would also take advantage of India's investment in Chabahar. Regional states would also benefit from the enhanced capacity of the port, he added.
Based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Tehranhas allocated 54 hectares of land to Afghan merchants for transiting their products, according to IRNA.
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi hopes the investment in Chabahar will provide opportunities for New Delhi to have a wider presence in the region.
