Rebel firing kills 1 civilian, injures 14 in Kunar

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): One civilian was killed and 14 others injured after Talibaninfo-icon fired bullets and rockets for several hours into villages in the Marawara district of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Deputy Kunar police chief Col. Sayed Maqsud Pacha told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban had been firing into villages since Monday morning.

He said one civilian was killed and 10 others including womeninfo-icon and children were wounded in Taliban-fired mortar shells and gunfire on Monday.

Another four other civilians including a mother and her three children were injured when a mortar shell hit their house in Marawara village of the district on Tuesday morning, Pacha said. He added that there were no security posts in the area where militants were firing.

Kunar Civil Hospital Director Dr. Faroq Sahak confirmed receiving eight wounded people including women and children on Monday and four others on Tuesday. He said condition of the wounded persons was stable.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard. Three days ago, at least 15 civilians were killed and 37 others wounded in a suicide attack in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar.
