Heavy clashes in Badakhshan’s Baharak district underway
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least three militants have been killed during ongoing clashes with Afghan forces in Baharak district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Wednesday.
Deputy police chief, Col. Sakhidad Haideri, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban insurgents launched coordinated attacks on security posts in the district around 6am.
He said three fighters were killed and four others detained by security forces during the clash. An Afghan security official also sustained slight injuries, he added.
The militants were equipped in neighbouring Warduj districtcontrolled by them, Haideri said. Kashm, Tagab, Teshkan and Argo districts have already been purged of rebels.
Ahmad Naveed Frotan, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the attacks on security posts in Baharak, but he had no information about casualties.
Baharak district is located 44 kilometers southeast of Faizabad, the provincial capital.
