Jalalabad attack ends, woman among 8 killed
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): All five Taliban gunmen who attacked security forces near the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, were killed on Wednesday, an official said.
A policeman and two civilinas, including a woman, were also killed in the gun and suicide attack that took place near the Indian diplomatic mission at around 2pm. Another 19 people were wounded.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bombing took place near the Indian Consulate.
One attacker blew himself up and four others opened fire at security forces who eliminated all the gunmen, bringing to an end the coordinated assault.
Public Health Director Najibullah Kamawal said some wounded people had been evacuated to the civil hospital from the scene.
Asadullah, an eyewitness, said the suicide bomber blew himself up on the road. Some insurgents entered the street and started firing.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
