Pajhwok journalist among many honoured for their services
KABUL (Pajhwok): Several people, including a Pajhwok Afghan News journalist, were given away gold medals and appreciation letters in recognition of their services in 2015 by a civil society group on Wednesday.
The recipients included ministers, academicians, poets, writers and journalists who were considered for the awards by the Juwand Welfare Society after evaluating their one year performances.
Hikmatullah Mazlumyar, the group leader, told a gathering titled “Da Kar Khalq” that such professionals had traditionally been honoured and praised after their death but his group wanted to honour them in their life.
He said the recipients had been approved by the group’s 10-member committee for the awards. “We organize this programme once a year to appreciate those who work hard in their profession and serve the country.”
Abdul Bari Jehani, the information and culture minister, appreciated the civil society group, saying there were few people who encouraged poets and literature. He said poets often happened to be poor people who had knowledge but lacked money to print their books.
Nasirn Oriakhel, the labour and social affairs minister, earned a gold medal from Zwand Group for her extraordinary performance and hard work.
She told Pajhwok Afghan News the award enhanced her responsibility and now she would work harder.
Another 20 people were also awarded gold medals and 36 others received appreciation letters from the group.
