Campaign to discourage migration to Europe begins

Campaign to discourage migration to Europe begins

Mar 06, 2016 - 20:48

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The National Union of Afghanistaninfo-icon Workers (NUAW) on Sunday launched a campaign aimed at encouraging the youth not to leave the country for Europe.

The week-long campaign under the slogan “Stay in your country and force the government to answer” comes after tens of thousands of Afghans fled the country in the hope of a better life in European countries through danger routes.

NUAW president Maroof Qadri said the ongoing insecurity was not the only factor forcing the youth to leave the country.

He listed other reasons behind the migrationinfo-icon as the organized conflict, dwindling economy, backbreaking poverty, unemployment, rampant corruption in government departments and nepotism and others.

Expressing his concern over the serious looming problem with joblessness in Afghanistan, Maroof said the government was duty-bound to create jobs for the skilled youth.

He said their campaign was aimed at creating awareness among the youth about the importance of their stay in the country. He said they would encourage people not to leave their country and compel the government to respond to people’s demands and problems.
