Garbage collection in Kabul ahead of summer ordered
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Financial and Economic Management Council, directing the Kabul municipality and the labour department to collect garbage from the central capital ahead of summer.
The meeting participants presented their reports regarding the collection of trashes from Kabul and about trade and investment facilities in the country and the export of fresh and dried fruits via the Hamid Karzai International Airport, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
The meeting at the Presidential Palace asked the Kabul municipality and the labour department to collect and clear all the garbage from Kabul city before the advent of summer.
The meeting also decided that a wide evaluation on how to manage garbage for a long period should take place and the public and the private sectors should jointly work on converting the trash into energy.
The economy minister briefed the meeting on the investment situation in Afghanistan and presented his suggestions about facilities for trade and investment to promote the country to the top of the World Bank list.
It was decided that Afghan fruits should be currently exported abroad by the state-owned Aryana Airlines and in future, a better mechanism should be found for the exports, the statement said.
It was also revealed at the meeting that work schedule for the Kabul airport customs department should be changed in order to facilitate the export of dried and fresh fruits.
Second vice president Mohammad Sarwar Danish, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, first deputy CEO Eng. Mohammad Khan, National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani and the economic sector ministers participated in the meeting, the statement concluded.
