10 security men, 15 rebels killed in Uruzgan clash
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Security forces and Taliban militants clashed in the Dehrawud district of central Uruzgan province overnight, with both sides suffering casualties.
Aminullah Khaliqi, the Dehrawud district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces had launched an operation in the district’s Miand and Maktab areas.
He said the clash that came during the operation left six police and four Afghan National Army troops dead. Another four police and 11 ANA troops were injured during the clash.
Dehrawud police chief Haji Niaz said besides casualties suffered by the security forces, 15 militants had been killed and scores of others wounded.
Former provincial council chief and a resident of Dehrawud, Amanullah Hotaki, told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces, sent for operation to the area, were staying in two houses when came under a surprise attack from militants.
He said six policemen and eight ANA troops had been killed in the attack, but a large number of militants had also suffered casualties.
He said clashes between security forces and militants in Dehrawud were underway over the past few days, displacing a number of families.
