3 smugglers detained with 24kg of drugs in Badakhshan
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Three drug smugglers were detained in northeastern Badakhshan province on Tuesday, an official said.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori, told Pajhwok Afghan News 15 kilograms of heroin were seized from a wood-laden truck.
The heroin was seized when the truck was stopped for a search at a security post on the outskirts of Faizabad, the provincial capital, he said.
Gen. Ghafoori added the heroin had been packed skillfully. Police detained the driver and a second individual in connection with the smuggling.
Meanwhile, a car driver was arrested with nine kilograms of hashish at a checkpoint in the Bagh Mubarak locality of Faizabad, Ghafoori said.
He added an amount of 130,000 afghanis was recovered from the traffickers. “Possibly, the money has come from smuggling drugs.”
Over the past two weeks, counter-narcotics police have detained six smugglers, including a woman, in Kasham district and on the Faizabad-Takhar highway.
