7 rebels killed, 3 wounded in Kunduz offensive
KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least seven militants, including a commander, have been killed and three others wounded during an operation on the outskirts of the capital of northeastern Kunduz province, an official said Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, spokesman for 20th Pamir Division, told Pajhwok Afghan News the ground-air operation was conducted in Naseriha, Jarguzar and Malarghi areas of Kunduz City on Monday night.
He said seven militants were killed and three others wounded during the operation by Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and police forces.The three areas were cleared and the security forces were searching suspect houses, Karimi said.
The Kunduz police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh, said the operation was also supported by the Afghan Air Force. He put the rebel fatalities at 11, saying that security forces and civilians suffered no casualties.
Feroz, a resident of Katakhil village, confirmed the bombardment of militant hideouts.But he was unaware of the casualties.
Residents of Kunduz City have repeatedly complained the city was under high threat from Taliban. They asked the government to launch a clearing operation in the area.
