15 dead, 25 injured as bomb rips through bus in Peshawar
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Fifteen people were killed and 25 others wounded on Wednesday morning when a powerful bomb ripped through a bus in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said.
The ill-fated vehicle was carrying employees of the Civil Secretariat from Mardan to Peshawar, the provincial capital. The explosion occurred in the Sunehri Masjid area of the city, causing panic among residents.
A senior police officer confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News: "Fifteen people were killed and 25 others injured, some critically. The death toll could rise."
“The roof of the bus was blown off and its body cut to pull out the injured,” said Ahmad Ali, giving an eyewitness account.Rescue officials and security personnel cordoned off the high-security neighbourhood, he added.
Residents evacuated the injured in their personal cars to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH). There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb attack.
