9 dead, 6 wounded in Kunar clash & roadside bombing
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): At least five insurgents have been killed and another six wounded during a clash with security forces in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkheli, told Pajhwok Afghan News the firefight erupted between on Tuesday night in the Dabarwar locality of Asmar district.
At least five Taliban were killed and six injured, he said, adding an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was also killed and another wounded. An operation is underway to clear the locality.
He said: “Dabarwar lately started sliding into insecurity. If we clear the area, roads from Narai and Ghaziabad districts to Asadabad, the provincial capital, will be reopened,” he said.
The Taliban confirmed the clash, with the group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claiming that 21 security forces personnel had suffered casualties. However, he said nothing about Taliban’s casualties.
At least four passengers, including women and children, were killed when the car they were travelling in hit a roadside bomb in the Hajiabad area of Ghaziabad, Syedkheli said.
He blamed the militants for planting the bomb, but the insurgents have issued no comment yet the explosion.
