Protesters block Kabul-Kandahar highway for 5 hours
QALAT (Pajwhok): Hundreds of enraged protesters blocked Kabul-Kandahar highway for traffic on Friday against the alleged murder of a civilian by police in southern Zabul province.
Nearly 500 protesters blocked the highway for five hours in the Spina Ghbarga area on the outskirts of Qalat, the provincial capital of Zabul.
They would continue their protests till the conviction of the policemen, who killed the civilian on Thursday, one of the protesters, Anar Gul, told Pajhwok Afghan News. “Police should protect civilians and should not kill innocent people,” he said.
Naimatullah, brother of the victim, said that an insurgent attacked police checkpoint in the Spina Ghbarga area, but security personnel raided on my brother's house and shot him dead.
His brother had no links with militants he said while asking the government to punish murderers.
However, the deputy police chief, Col. Ghulam Gilani Farahi, said the person was killed during clash, but local people claimed that the slain person was civilian.
They have transferred the policemen of two checkpoints to other areas and have launched investigation into the case, he said.
