944 people suffer casualties in outgoing year in Kunar
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Officials on Saturday said nearly 1,000 people, a majority of them militants, have been killed and wounded in violence related incidents during the past one year in the mountainous eastern province of Kunar.
The dead included 250 militants, 150 civilians and 30 security personnel and the injured included 350 militants, 124 civilians and 40 security men, Kunar deputy police chief Col. Syed Maqsud Pacha told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said these casualties occurred as a result clashes, gun attacks and bomb blasts during the outgoing solar year.
In addition to operations by Afghan security forces, foreign forces also carried out 25 drone attacks in different parts of Kunar during the period, Pacha said, adding Afghan security forces conducted 27 joint operations in the past year.
However, a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the official figures for casualties among militants in Kunar.
