Abducted 3 months ago, Nimroz trader found dead

Mar 24, 2016 - 13:35

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): The body of Abdullah Noori, a noted businessman, has been found in the Khashrod district of southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Thursday.

The trader was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen three months ago on the Zaranj-Khashrod road. His body was recovered late on Wednesday, crime branch chief Col. Abdul Hadi Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Noori was held in a house in Khashrod, he said, adding the kidnappers fled the house after killing Noori. They escaped after the area was surrounded by police to rescuethe captive. Police are hunting for criminals.

Haji Mohammad Nader Nawrozi, the victim’s uncle, said Noori was going to the district in connection with some work when abducted by unknown gunmen.

He alleged police had been complicit in the kidnapping of his nephew, who had been shifted in a police vehicle to an undisclosed location.

Nooruddin Noori, another relative of slain trader, said the abductors had demanded a huge ransom for his release. He, however, did not put a figure on the amount of money sought.

Earlier, seven policemen and former crime branch chief Col. Abdul Rahman Azizi were fired from their positions in connection with the abduction of Noori.
