Prices of gold & food items up in Kabul
KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar, flour, ghee and gold increased during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.
Anjamuddin, a wholesaler in Tahia Maskan area of Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the rate of a 49kg Kazakh flour bag jumped from 1,180 afghanis to 1,250 afghanis, 49kg of Pakistani sugar increased from 1,900afs to 2,000afs and of 16 liters of Momin ghee from 970afs to 1,050afs during the week.
He linked the price hike to cut in imports of the commodities. However, 25kg of Pakistani rice cost 1,650afs, the same price as of last week’s, he said.
Fazl Ahmad, a tea wholesaler in Kabul Market, sold a kilogram of black African for 240afs and the same quantity of green Madina tea for 220afs.
But a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area, Ahmad Javid, sold a 49-kg bag of Kazakh flour for 1,300afs, a 49-kg sack of sugar for 2,100afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 1,800afs.
He sold a 16-litre tin of Momin ghee for 1,100afs, a kilo of African black tea for 260afs and the same quantity of Madina green tea for 250afs -- higher than wholesale prices.
Fuel prices also increased. Abdul Hadi, a filling station worker in Kabul, said the price of one liter of petrol increased from 39afs to 41afs and of diesel from 33afs to 34afs.
Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta neighborhood, sold a kilogram of gas for 40afs, the same rate as of last week’s.
Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold cost 2,300afs but the price of the same quantity of the Russian variety increased from 1,850afs to 1,900afs.
According to Sadaqat, a moneychanger in Shahzada Sarai market, the buying rate of one US dollar this week was 68.55afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees changed for 648afs.
Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 68.30afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 643afs.
