Ghazni urban court judge shot dead in Maidan Wardak

Mar 26, 2016 - 21:03

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants shot dead the urban court judge for Ghazni City, the capital of southern Ghazni province, on Thursday after intercepting his vehicle in central Maidan Wardak province.

Judge Mohammad Anwar Rahmani was traveling in his vehicle from Kabulinfo-icon to Ghazni when suspected militants intercepted him in Salar area of Maidan Wardak at 11am and his body was found in the afternoon in the same area, a statement from the police headquarters in Ghazni said.

Another judge of the same court, who accompanied Rahmani, was rescued from the Taliban, the statement added.

The governor’s spokesman, Javed Salangi, confirmed the incident.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the assassination, saying an attorney, Abdul Rasheed, held by the fighters, was also killed during an exchange of fire with security forces who were trying to rescue the officials.
