Wolesi Jirga may consider no-trust vote against Rabbani
The lawmakers had summoned Rabbani along with Refugee and Repatriation Minister Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi to Saturday’s session to answer queries from lawmakers regarding Afghan migrants in Europe.
Balkhi appeared, but Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ghulam Nabi Farahi said Rabbani was on a foreign tour and the acting foreign minister was ready to come to the parliament. But the parliamentarians accused Rabbani of disobeying the house.
A lawmaker from northeastern Badakhshan province, Fawzia Kofi, said they could not summon the acting foreign minister and answers from the refugee minister alone would not help resolve the important issue of Afghan refugees.
Insisting on a no trust vote against Rabbani, she said the minister was scheduled to be summoned on Wednesday last, but it was delayed till Saturday, but the minister remained outside of the country. “Is it not his disregard for the law and the Wolesi Jirga?”
“The leaders of the government especially ministers are not paying attention to the parliament and this behaviour shows the government has no concern for Afghan refugees,” another lawmaker from central Maidan Wardak province, Ghulam Husain Nasiri, remarked.
“As the date has already been coordinated with the minister, he ignored the agenda of the Wolesi Jirga. It shows the government has no respect for the law,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Wolesi Jirga Secretary Abdul Rauf Inami said that the foreign minister messaged him that his flight had been delayed and he was in the Kabul airport and would reach the parliament in half an hour.
After the message, Wolesi Jirga Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi asked lawmakers to ask questions from the refugee minister till Rabbani arrived, but as of 12pm, Rabbani could not reach the house.
After this, lawmakers said the foreign minister had insulted the parliament by not appearing and filled forms to summon him for a no-confidence vote.
But after half an hour, Rabbani appeared in the Wolesi Jirga. Inaami told Pajhwok Afghan News they would decide in the next session whether to summon Rabbani or not.
