Notorious Taliban commander killed in Baghlan
PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A Taliban-designated district chief was killed by security forces during an operation in northern Baghlan province on Sunday, the governor said.
Abdul Satar Bariz told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation in Dara-i-Waliaan locality of Khanjan district was launched at 5:00am.
He said the nine-hour long offensive resulted in the killing of the Taliban’s shadow district chief for Tala-wa-Barfak district, Jan Mohammad alias Mullah Janu, and his bodyguard.
At least five of Janu’s fighters were also detained, he said, adding the operation involved police and intelligence officials.
Bariz said Jan Mohammad was a notorious Taliban commander in the province.
The commander would sometimes help his comrades in Dand-i-Shahabuddin and Dand-i-Ghori areas on the outskirts of the provincial capital, he added.
