President greets Afghan players, coaches over victory
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday congratulated the Afghan cricket team and coaches over the telephone on the historic victory against West Indies in their final World Cup T20 match in India.
Afghanistan recorded six-run victory against unbeaten West Indies in Nagpur City. West Indies were restricted to 117-8 in pursuit of Afghanistan’s 123.
The appearance of Afghanistan team in the international Twenty20 game represented the national side’s hard work and good performance, the president told the players during a telephonic conversation, a statement from the president’s office said.
“You are the real heroes of Afghanistan and you proved yourself this time and every time in the international games,” he said in the statement.
The president thanked both batting coach Inzamamul Haq from Pakistan and bowling coach Manoj Prabakar from India for properly training the Afghan players.
While referring to the teamwork between players and coaches, he said it was a good example of cooperation and joint work for regional countries with Afghanistan.
