Faryab governor supports municipality’s initiatives
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The governor on Wednesday stoutly supported new programmes of the municipality for cleanliness, beautification and environment production in Maimana, the capital of northern Faryab province.
Governor Syed Anwar Sadat told Pajhwok Afghan News he had instructed other officials to cooperate with the municipality in the implementation of its initiatives to spruce up the city.
Over the past few years, the municipality has executed several projects including graveling of roads, property registration, cleanliness, construction of buildings, a fruit market, aslaughterhouse and shifting of garbage out of Maimana.
Deputy Mayor Syed Ahmad Shah Ghiyasi said since the reform process was yet to be set in motion, municipality employees continued working for low wages (4500 afghanis).
He complained themunicipality was also faced with a staff shortage and lack of financial and technical support. The challenges needed to be met to improve the department’s performance, he believed.
Meanwhile, Governor Sadat instructed the relevant departments, including the security personnel, to cooperate with the municipality in the implementation of its programmes.
The municipality would sign a memorandum of understanding with the Adana city of Turkey, he said. Under the MoU, Turkey will cooperate with the Maimana municipality in preparing professional, technical and educational plans.
At its maiden meeting, the municipality’sadvisory council vowed to launch cleanliness campaigns, remove all barriers on roads and shift butchers to slaughterhouses.
The participants pledged illegal shops, ironsmiths, carpenters, cement, brick and gas sellers would be relocated to a proper place to keep the provincial capital in proper shape.
The chairman of the council, Mohammad Asif Paiman, said owners would be asked to paint shops and apartments. Those refusing to do the needful will be prosecuted.
