Alcoholic drinks seized from container in Kabul
Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi, the 101 Asmai Zone police commander, told reporters the banned beverages were concealed in a 40-feet long container and recovered by counternarcotics officials.
He said the container, full wine bottles, had entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing and three individuals had been arrested in connection with the seizure.
He did not give further details about the arrested persons and said Afghanistan was an Islamic country and would not allow any activity against Sharia Law.
Rahimi said police had arrested 57 sellers of alcoholic drinks in Kabul during the past one month. He warned all those involved in such illegal activities of legal action.
The police commander did not provide exact number of the wine bottles, but Syed Mehdi Kazami, the spokesman for the Directorate of Counternarcotics Department at the Interior Ministry, said 19 bottles of wine had been recovered from the container.
