President confers Masjidi Khan Award on Mubariz
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday conferred the Ghazi Mir Masjidi Khan Award on Afghan Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Baz Mohammad Mubariz, the president’s office said.
Mubariz recently defeated his Russian rival in the games in Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, watched by thousands of audience including the deputy president of Russia and Afghan diplomats in the country.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said in addition to the Mir Masjiki Khan Award, the president gave cash reward to Mubariz and praised him and his team coach for the tireless efforts.
He said it was a pride that the Afghan national flag was hoisted in many countries due to the efforts of Mubariz.
“I hope the youth of the country will have good achievements in sports,” Ghani said, adding his government was committed to encouraging athletes for more success on international level.
Mubariz also thanked the president for supporting athletes and assured that he would try his best to get more achievements in international games in future and to brig Afghanistan into toppers list.
